MORRIS COHEN
character roles: Son, friend, lover, surrogate parent, leader, follower, healer, advisor, listener, fool, wiseguy, wise man. |
background: Born in Long Beach, NY, a challenging childhood led me to an adulthood searching… The love of the beach and ocean resulted in 9 years as a lifeguard. Those years taught me so much about life, relationships, bureaucracies, dealing with he public and political power, and of course, mother nature. I went to college in Albany, NY where I studied politics at the seat of State power, the New York State Assembly. After college, I backpacked across Western Europe on my own. Less than a year later, my father passed on, ushering me officially into adulthood. After a year of struggle and change in Miami, I received a call from a close friend inviting me to move back to New York City to become a school teacher, another life-changing event! For the past ten years I’ve worked in New York City public schools. In 2001, I received my Masters in Social Work, transforming me into a school social worker/child therapist. While there is little doubt on the impact I’ve made, it feels like this cycle is coming to a close, and I’ve recently begun consulting on digital storytelling to community-based agencies. More to come…
