Description: Though often portrayed as sinister, wolfs are exactly the opposite. Social and highly intelligent animals, wolfs represent guardianship, ritual, family, loyalty and spirit. Wolfs have a strong sense of family loyalty and live by very defined rules and rituals. They even define specific territories as sacred. Wolfs display a complex communication system of body language, eye contact, facial expressions, and verbal communications. The wolf will teach you how to balance verbal communication with appropriate body language to convey your meaning most effectively. All members of the pack care for and give affection to the pups that are born in the spring. Wolfs are extremely tolerant and will even babysit or take over the care of the young if the parents cannot. These qualities show the need for respect and honor for family and children. Wolfs behave along a social hierarchical structures, where each member of the pack has its place. There is an 'alpha' male and an 'alpha' female in each pack. Ritualistic behaviors establish rank, and while the 'alpha' does have autocratic control as the leader, it does not take absolute authority. Wolf packs are also democratic, displaying a reminder that as you lead, find a balance between authority and democracy, true freedom requires a balance.
